I've often wondered...what would happen if we were all perfectly truthful when answering the question, "How are you?" I've been tempted to be sincere many times, but since my parents taught me to be polite I'm afraid I often lie.
It's interesting to note that in other countries/cultures the use of "how are you" is not as indiscriminate as it is in our society. It's only said when the person asking actually cares about the answer. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that no one cares...or even that I actually care a great deal each and every time I ask the question...I'm just saying that sometimes I think I'd prefer the world in which "how are you?" is actually a question, and "actually, I feel like crap" is a valid response.

I am with you on that one. Why are we so affraid to really tell people the truth? You can tell me any day that you feel like crap Am, because more than likely we all feel like crap too. Besides, you are pregnant...you have every right to feel like crap. If you ever need to vent just call.
Ame...I do believe you have told me you feel like crap before! :) I am laughing so hard! This is so true! And to be honest...today I am feeling a little like crap myself! :)
You make me laugh and feel normal! If ever you feel like crap call me and we can commiserate...I feel that way on occasion too - just yesterday infact, I felt like crap AND looked like crap. Talk about a double whammy.
I love reading your posts because you are so honest, it makes me happy!:) Even if you do feel like crap, I think that you are great!
