I Dont' Wanna Grow Up!

When in the world did I become an old lady? I wasn't aware of age sneaking up on me but suddenly I find myself in the very awkward position of being a grown up! This fact was hit home quite indelicately this evening by an encounter with a group of teens in the neighborhood. Since my house is host to one of the only street lights in the known world (what's up with that, by the way) we seem to attract a well-meaning, but loud group of kids once the sun goes down each night.

This evening I was struggling to get my three little ones to sleep. They were NOT cooperating. This endeavor became more difficult as my girls caught wind of the not-so-quiet congregation out front. I waited a few minutes hoping that they would move on. But they didn't. Because I'm seriously sleep-deprived and would do almost anything under the sun for a few minutes of peace and quiet from the screaming nightmare I live through each night...I made the decision to go outside and ask them, kindly, to quiet down a little. Oh...that's right, folks...apparently I'm one of those people.

I found out that no matter how nice, chummy, or friendly you approach a crowd of adolescents YOU ARE THE ENEMY. I could read it in their eyes, hear it in their voices. At first I couldn't figure out who they were acting like that about...then it hit me! These kids actually think I'm an adult! And, oh my gosh, I'm even acting like one! Oh, the humiliation.

I swear I didn't see it coming.

FYI....it has recently come to my knowledge, that I am not only an adult, but apparently I am a middle-aged adult. When did that happen? I honestly still feel 18 (with some extra pounds of course.)

I can imagine how old I seem to my kids and yet I think I still am young in everyone elses eyes! Ya right!
We realized we were old when we would catch the max train into Portland and roll our eyes at the obnoxious loud and attention seeking kids sitting in the row next to us. It's that moment that I realized if they were annoying...we were old.

oh that is funny, I am sure they were not mad though, I think I saw those kids out playing games too.

I have been known to do the same type of things in my old age...when did we start becoming so lame!?

I told my mom today that I taught the 16 year olds in church today she then asked me "How did that go, you are the same age as them how come you taught that age?" I kindly told her I was actually 10 years older than them and she told me I should not say things like that because it makes her sound old.

Okay, I am glad that I am not the only one. I have seriously tried to hint by flashing the porch light and things like that, but the fire crackers at 11:30 did it in for me. It is good to know that I am not the only one they will be whispering about now. :)

Oh Amy,
I think that once we get married "old age" as you put it kind of puts its ugly face on us! I mean honestly, first we are married, then we are married with children, then our children are going off to school, I mean, I wish personally we could stay 23 forever, but we can't! I don't blame you for asking them to quiet down, I mean afterall you need your rest too. Oh and it gives me great pride to say, my children were not in that group!

Yeah- you are getting pretty old Amy. And just because you don't like to have fun anymore, doesn't mean you need to ruin it for everyone else. Gosh. LOL!
Doesn't it stink to get older? I remember when my parents were my age and I thought they were soooo old.
I don't blame you for saying something. I would have done the same thing.
