Powers of Observation

Out of the blue Ellie asked, "Mom, where is daddy's work?" I responded, "At the airport...he drives up there to fly the airplanes." A split second of profound silence was followed by an incredulous, "WHAT?"

I wasn't sure what her "WHAT?" was in reference to, but it suddenly seemed possible that my 4 year-old had no idea that her father was a pilot. I looked her square in the face and explained, "Daddy flies airplanes from the airport and back for his work." The look on her face was enough...she was awash in disbelief. As I watched her adjust to the idea I could tell she thought it was pretty cool.

Or, as Ellie would say, "Awethome!"

POST EDIT:
Not long after posting the what-do-you-mean-my-daddy-is-a-pilot story, Ellie asked me the following: "Do boy babies come out of daddy tummies?" At which point I reminded her of my very pregnant & very large tummy all full of baby boy Curtis.

I'm beginning to wonder what else she's missed.

THAT is so funny. I remember one day James hurt his eye - and I told him, "Oh, when Daddy gets home - he can look at it. He's an eye doctor." James looked at me like I was speaking Chinese (it was SOOO unbelievable to him) and then he responded, "No, he's not."

Okay...so, I guess they still don't believe it. :)

Love that Ellie just figured out her dad is one of those really cool people that flies planes.... :)

My kids know exactly where Joe's office is. Every time we drive past NORCO, the kids will shout, "There's Daddy's work!!" Even little Logan will point and shout, "Daddy!" I don't know that they necessarily know what he does all day long, but they know where he is. Taylor informed us the other day that "Daddy fires people" for his job. True, but not on a daily basis.

What a great story. It's amazing the things that we think are so obvious but that are lost on our kids.

And it's definitely cool that her daddy flies planes! :)

You guys should rent a plane sometime and take the kids up and have Daddy fly. That is very cool. Everytime Jack see's a police car on the road he says "Daddy!" even though he's driven an unmarked for 6 months now. I think he thinks his dad is the only police man out there. I love listening to kids thoughts, so funny! It's very profound to think that boy babies come out of boy's bellies... only if?
