Hanging With The Boys

One of the things my kids enjoy most about summer is spending time with their cousins. Each year we get a special, extended visit from my older brother. Two weeks ago he came rolling into town in his camper-van and brought along all his children...including his three boys. Imagine my son's delight when faced with the prospect of three like-minded buddies. Yup...he was nearly beside himself with joy.

While here, my youngest nephew celebrated his 5th birthday. His dad took him to Target and let him pick out a present. As he walked down the "Nerf" aisle he exclaimed, "AWESOME!" and soon walked out of the store with not one, but two Nerf guns in hand.

And that was the moment I abandoned all efforts to keep my son from expressing his boyish need to shoot things. I grabbed one more and headed home. Several days of all-out warfare followed. (And yes, the adults spent more than their fair-share of time in combat.) Curtis just LOVES it.

Here's Curtis trying to get the little suction cups to stick to the window:

Isn't that stance awesome?

I could tell you how devastatingly sad he's been since they left...but that's a whole other post. :)

My son and I had a nerf gun war a while back. And then he showed me how he is able to shoot flies with the nerf darts. He killed 4 in a row. "But don't worry Mom. I make sure to wash all the fly parts off in the sink."

That stance is super awesome! He nailed it! Love it. My boys discovered nerf at the schaeffers a few weeks ago and now I have ideas for Christmas. :)

Logan informed me the other day that Mack (Ligthening McQueen's semi from "Cars") was his brother. I thought how sad that my only boy has to claim a semi-truck as his brother. We really need to get Logan and Curtis together! And Logan doesn't do nerf guns. He wants a real gun. His older sister has a little 22 shot gun that he has laid claim to and makes his daddy get it out of the gun cabinet so he can practice aiming. It's a little scarey!!

Oh, the joys of the Nerf guns. Good luck :).
