As I progress in this blessed, yet perpetually annoying, pregnancy, I'm sure you will all get sick of me expressing my many evolving pet peeves. But today I just can't hold it in. I've discovered once again that I have a distinct dislike for stupidity...in all of its various forms. So what is the source of my rage today? Baby names. That's right...the names that parents choose to impose upon their children for their entire earthly lives. (Well at least until they are old enough to have them legally changed.) I'm going to focus on one particular baby name faux pas. SPELLING. I've compiled a short list of my very favorite irritants. (I will also provide the appropriate translation so you will not be as confused as I have been):
Elyzibythe (Elizabeth)
Ginapher (Jennifer)
Mikol (Michael)
Suezynn (Susan)
Pstephen (Stephen or Steven)
Sydnyee / Cidne (Sidney)
Silest (Celeste)
Karryllinne (Caroline...good grief)
Duglass (Douglas)
Mykynziee (Mackensie)
Kloie (Chloe)
Please join with me in my one-woman battle to rid the world of such cruelties. I ask you...do we honestly need more children being beat up in the playgrounds of the world? Let us all answer with a resounding NO!

Amen Sista!
After typing 650 elementary kid names in their directory, I am probably your biggest supporter. I'm just crossing my fingers that I don't have a typo because they are VERY sensitive to any misspellings. Is there a witness protection program for this sort of thing?
I totally, and wholeheartedly agree.
Ditto, ditto, and ditto!!

Amy you crack me up! If I ever need a good laugh I can always check out your blog!
Do people really use these?
I am SO with you. I'm all about choosing normal names with normal spellings. I didn't realize how many ways there were to spell Caleb and Alyssa, it was so obvious to be when I chose the names.
Reading this made me think of a post my sister-in-law did a few months ago. I think you'll appreciate it. Check it out.

I could give you lists and lists of made-ups names from my years of teaching. (I won't for fear that their parents will stumble across them online.) I know they're real names, but I insist on calling them made-up because who in their right mind really spells them like that? As an adult that has had to deal with spelling my name every single time I give it to someone, I just don't understand why parents do this to their children.
