What Did I Just Say?

An interesting fact about my five-year old: she loves nature shows. She will become glued to the TV at the onset of any such program. It has baffled me in the past but, since they are probably more educational than a lot of other shows on TV, I let her watch them. I usually try and "edit" out the savagery the best I can. As soon as the Orca whale jumps out of the ocean to gobble up the cute little penguin I jump at the remote, change the channel, and ta-da...the show's over. It's worked so far for me.

Ian, however, doesn't seem to have the same censorship requirements that I do. While I was gone yesterday Ian and the girls had some father-daughter bonding time watching a nature show about Forest Tigers. At one point a tiger jumped out of the foliage to grab a passing deer. He then dragged it's torn and bleeding carcass through the trees to it's hungry family. Ian let it run and Lindy kept watching, intrigued.

Of course, I found out all of this much later in the day. Upon walking in the door I was greeted by both girls pretending to be animals. Lindy was a tiger. Ellie was a deer. (Guess whose idea that was.) And now?...I've actually heard the following phrase come out of my mouth more than once: "Lindy, please don't pretend to eat your sister." Sheesh.

I have started to keep a log of the things that I say as a parent that is so strange, I never thought it would come out of my mouth. They are nearly as funny as my kid-isms. Join the club.

Wow! That is cool that she is so intrigued by nature shows. You never know, she just may end up being a great vet or animal expert. Smart girl, my 5 yr. old wants to watch Hannah Montana....I'm not surprised about the lack of censorship from Dad.. I wouldn't expect it either.

So glad my kids aren't the only ones. I have the funniest picture of a dog leash around Jaiden's neck and little Makynlee (when she was about 2) dragging her good big brother the dog around the house. I think it is WONDERFUL that they all get along relatively well and play together. It does a mom's heart good!

Sean and I are both sitting here laughing. That is great. Lindy loves to be the animals. I love it.

At least it was T.V. -- you can turn that off. What do you do for a Truman Show moment with live livestock action? Back in March I took my daughter on a scenic drive -- saw all the cute little lambs and new spring calves. Then came the awkward moment where several sets of cows were mating. Ashlyn said something about silly cows. I left it at that and tried to point out the cute little lambs again before putting the pedal to the metal!

Wow. That's a pretty tough girl you've got there. I'm way too squeamish to watch all that gore.

And what's wrong with what you said? Sounds like pretty good advice to me.

Thats great. Katelynn pretends she is a tiger all the time to. Maybe we should get our little tigers together.
