Too Far?

Admittedly I've been too uptight in the past. I know that. You know that. As a mother of three kids, however, I've had to learn to relax a little and let go. I often have pep-talks with myself to convince the OCD side of my nature that there are certain things that aren't important enough to be contrary about. For example, last week I actually let my 3-year old wear mismatched flip flops in public. The old me wouldn't have stood for it. The new and improved me just can't find the energy to be bothered.

But, have I let it go too far? Is the new me just a little bit too apathetic about my Ellie's fashion sense? You be the judge. Yesterday she came downstairs in the following outfit asking, "Is this perfect, mom?"

And, since I was busy doing something else, I said, "Yup" and let her be on her way. (Notice the hair isn't done either.) As she ran around outside, reveling in her fashion freedom, I had to wonder, should I really able to let go this much?

that look is right up my alley. I like it, I am kinda sporting that same look today.

I have been surprised seeing your little girls running around outside, without you! Good job, isn't it a nice feeling knowing where they are, but not having to be right there. It took me awhile to get used to, but know I love it.
If you saw my pic of Annie last night, you will know that I fully support Ellie's fashion. I did the same and I turned out okay.

I think she looks great! I remember loving this outfit I picked out of red guess jeans with a perfectly matching pink shirt! It was the best outfit ever! My mom absolutely would not let me wear it. I look back and think, "Why?" It didn't matter. So I think you're doing good!

We learn to pick our battles don't we? Way to go. I think she looks cute and her curls are to die for!

As I read this, I wonder what you must think about those silly little girls of mine that never seem to match! I have learned that fighting that battle only wastes energy that should be spent elsewhere, and it makes me a really mean mom! Besides, who's looking at the clothes when the faces and hair are to die for!!! You have beautiful children! Way to let go a little!

You are a REAL Mom! YES YES YES let go THAT much! My 8 year old dresses like this regularly. We are teaching him how to coordinate clothing, but if he isn't wearing jeans, he comes up with some pretty interesting things to wear. The smile on Ellie's face says it all -- TOTAL self esteem that, "I did it all by myself, Mom!" Way to go, Ellie!

I feel the same way... Too tired to really care. You know what? She'll never be this little again, let her dress herself. The best thing about curly hair is that it looks like it is always done. She is beautiful. The little guy is such a cutie. You make pretty beautiful little ones.

She is so cute, it doesn't matter what shes wearing. It was so fun having the girls over! We struggled to get the party planned and the invites out. Sorry it came on such short notice!

Bryan took the kids to the movies last night and you should have seen the outfit Jace was sporting!! ...I should really post it...it was terrible! Ellie's outfit is adorable! Love the stripe thing she has going on!

Ok, I think this is a 3 year old thing. Jackson is the same way. He has to change his clothes at least 5 times a day. The outfits that I pick out for him are not good enought. I finally gave it up. This kid looks horable but is happy so I am happy!

That is so funny! Being of the same personality traits, I completely understand having to "let go." I do have to admit, however, that you have done a better job at relaxing...

When Natalie was recently wearing a mismatched outfit, I tried suggesting something else. She refused and said, "It's fine Mom, it's not stripes with stripes!" So she's mastered that rule but unfortunately that rule doesn't cover all bad outfits.

Thanks for the laugh...

I saw a mom wearing an outfit very similar to this but add polka dot rain boots to the mix!! Yep! True Story!
